Principal entry points into Rila National Park

Blagoevgrad – Kartalska Polyana locality

Starting point:
From the city of Blagoevgrad, along the valley of the river Blagoevgradska Bistritsa, 31 km. by blacktop road to Kartalska Polyana locality and the road to Macedoinia Chalet

Bus service during the summer season: Bus leaves 8:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Blagoevgrad to Bodrost Holiday Village.

Semkovo

Starting points:
From the town of Belitsa: 18 km. total (15 km. of blacktop + 3 km of gravel road);
From Belitsa railroad station, 21 km. along a marked trail – 4h 40’ walk.

The town of Belitsa is 19 km. from the town of Razlog, 18 km. from Yakoruda, and 4 km. from Belitsa railroad station.
Regular bus services to Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Razlog, Yakoruda, Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Velingrad, Yundola, Dobrinishte and Gotse Delchev. Belitsa is a station on the narrow-gauge railroad line from Septemvri (Pazardjik) to Dobrinishte.


Treshtenik  

Starting points:
From the town of Yakoruda, 16 km. of blacktop and 4 km. of gravel road to the newly built checkpoint of the National Park Directorate at Nechtenitsa locality, at the Park boundary;
From the town of Yakoruda, by marked trail to Nechtenitsa – 3h 30’ walk.

Transport connections between the town of Yakoruda and nearby communities: 24 km. from Belitsa railroad station; 25 km. from Yundola resort; 42 km. from Velingrad and 28 km. from Razlog.
Regular bus services to Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Razlog, Belitsa, Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Velingrad, Yundola, and Gotse Delchev. Yakoruda is a station on the narrow-gauge railroad line from Septemvri (Pazardjik) to Dobrinishte.


Belmeken

Starting points:
From the village of Sestrimo (railroad station on the Sofia to Plovdiv line) by blacktop road, 30 km.;
From Yundola resort by blacktop road, 25 km.;
From Velingrad, 40 km.

The entry point to Rila National Park is located 2 km. from the supporting outer wall of Belmeken Dam, in the immediate vicinity of the Belmeken alpine sports center of the State Agency for Youth and Sports. There is a checkpoint at the very boundary of the Park.

Kostenets

Starting point:
From the town of Kostenets via the village of Kostenets, by blacktop road, 9 km.

The National Park boundary is 4 km. by gravel road from the Kostenets resort village.


Borovets

Starting point:
From Borovets, by marked trail along the valley of the river Mursalenska Bistritsa – 4h 30’ walk;
From Borovets, 25’ by lift to Yastrebets Peak, then 1 h walk to Mussala Chalet.

The Borovets resort complex is 70 km. from Sofia, 10 km. from Samokov and 27 km. from Kostenets. There are regular bus services to and from all these places.

Malyovitsa

Starting point:
From Samokov, 28 km. by asphalt road.

There is a bus (coach) and a mini-van service from Samokov to Hotel Malyovitsa, at Mecha Polyana locality.

Zeleni Preslap, at Panichishte Resort Complex

Starting point:
From the town of Sapareva Banya, 2h by marked trail or 15 km by blacktop road to Zeleni Preslap locality.

From the resort of Panichishte, there are regular bus services to both Dupnitsa (27 km.) and Sapareva Banya (12 km.)
